How to Persuade People to Eat Healthy

When it comes to food, people often follow paths on a daily basis. On one side, you have people who follow a strict diet, eats lots of fruits and vegetables and watch their intakes of saturated fats and precessed foods. But then you have the people who haven't eaten a carrot stick since second grade. Sometimes these people are your loved ones and it is important to persuade them to eat healthy.

Instructions

    1

Find out some nutrition facts. If you are trying to persuade someone to eat healthy, a good starting point is presenting some facts to them. Get some books, magazines and articles that describe what happens to you when you eat unhealthy. This might put some fear into them to make some changes. (See Resources below.)

    2

Take your loved one out to eat. Most people who eat unhealthy foods do so when they are out to lunch, at work or out to dinner. Often times, they resort to unhealthy options because of time constraints, price or just because they don't think anything healthy is available. Show your loved one how to choose what he should order. Inform him about what to look for on menus and also what to ask for when getting something prepared. For example, choose an entree that is broiled instead of deep-fried, choose a baked potato instead of french fries and ask for dressing and sauces on the side, to limit the amount consumed.

    3

Find someone close to her who eats poorly and is in bad health, like a relative who has a poor diet and suffered a medical condition such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or cancer. If your loved one has a family member who died from complications like a heart attack, this might strike fear into them to start eating healthy so they do not end up the same way.

    4

Check to see if they have any ailments. Often times, people with poor dietary habits are more susceptible to colds, flus, infections, lethargy and headaches. This is usually the result of a decreases immune system. Try to persuade him to eat healthy for one week as a favor to you just to see how he feels. If he does it, he might find that his energy level is higher, he feels mentally sharp and he made it through the week without having to take a nap in the afternoon. This can be a launching point to eating healthy all the time.

    5

Make some healthy dishes for her to try. Many times, people refuse to eat healthy because of fear. They think that healthy food is going to taste bad. Make her a signature dish that is healthy and tastes great. Also show her how quick and easy it is to cook and prepare healthy meals. People sometimes resort to eating unhealthy foods because they are pressed for time.
